MDJ Says: My Zee loves surprising me with thoughtful little just-because-I-love-you gifts. Here’s one that made me positively dampen my Hanford tighty-whiteys with joy.
MDJ: I’ve never been a huge fan of the Star Wars movies. But crikey, I’m positively nuts about the Star Wars Expanded Universe novels, and have probably spent over $100 on the Amazon Kindle store for the right to worship at the altar of Timothy Zahn and Kevin J. Anderson.
Did you know, for example, that Luke Skywalker fell in love with the disembodied soul of a Jedi Master trapped for decades in a computer mainframe, before eventually marrying a Force-adept smuggler named Mara Jade? That’s the kind of thing these books tell you. 50 Shades of Grey has nothing on their theoretically steamy, Force-augmented sex life.
At the same time, I’ve been a huge fan of Moleskine’s legendary notebooks since the day when, as an 8-year old, the ghosts of Hemingway and Salvador Dali appeared to me in a dream, and said, Little 8-year old MDJ, if you wish to be a Superstar like us, you must use the same brand of notebooks we used, with genuine, archival-quality, unlined acid-free paper, and a tough, leather hardcover bound in such a way that the pages always, ALWAYS lie flat when you open it.
And who am I to say no to two masters of their respective crafts?
Because true Jedi Masters need lightsabers. And great marketers need great notebooks. So what does one need if one wishes to be a Jedi Marketing Master?
A Moleskine limited edition Star Wars notebook, of course. Obviously.
Just looking at the cover makes me weep gently with delight. The iconic Star Wars logo and rolling credits are foilstamped in gold, while the starfield is embossed in white into the leather.
The inside front cover spread is utterly magical though. I absolutely loathed A New Hope, but still get chills down my spine during the climactic final run on the Death Star.
“Man your ships. And may the Force be with you.”
What an inspiration this will be the next time I’m scribbling down notes for my next big marketing campaign brainstorm.
With a notebook this boss, I just know that I will never fall to the Dark Side.
Who knows what would have happened if only Darth Vader had approved the budget request of the Maw Installation scientists for Moleskine notebooks on which to plot the Death Star schematics?
The Force is strong in this notebook. Moleskine is just too swank for Star Wars fans and non-fans alike to pass up.
Zee: Geez… and I thought you liked it because I gave it to you raised above my head with the Imperial March playing in the background.
MDJ: I did. Thank you so much for the notebook. I utterly adore it. Are you Obi-Wan Kenobi? Cos you’re my only hope.
See what I did there?
MDJ: I knew it, you’ve fainted with happiness. I love you too, babe.
Moleskine notebooks are found in National Bookstore and such fine specialty bookstores as Fully Booked. We particularly adore National Bookstore in Greenbelt 1 for the massive segment dedicated exclusively to the awesomeness of Moleskine.
