Robert Blair Carabuena's public apology to the MMDA. Was it enough?

And so, Robert Blair Carabuena, the man who some have dubbed “The Notorious P.I.G.” has finally manned up, and extended a public and personal apology to MMDA Chairman Atty. Francis Tolentino, and to Mang Saturnino “Sonny” Fabros, for the traffic mauling incident that happened a week ago.

Here’s a full transcript of what he had to say.

*****

The English translation is as follows:

I bid good day to the Chairman of the MMDA, the Honorable Atty. Francis Tolentino, and to Mr. Saturnino “Sonny” Fabros – although I do not see him present here today. Good day to everyone.

My name is Robert Blair Carabuena, and I come here humbly to the MMDA offices to personally ask for forgiveness and understanding from Mr. Saturnino Fabros, from his children, and from you, Honorable Chairman, representing the MMDA organization through your leadership, and from all traffic enforcers of the MMDA for what transpired last August 11th.

It’s no secret to most of you that I displayed poor character and values that August 11th.

From you, Mr. Sonny, and from your six children, I respectfully ask for forgiveness.

Over the last several days since the August 11 incident, there has been plenty of speculation that I have gone into hiding, and that I plan to flee the country.

I would like you all to know that I was not in hiding, and neither will I flee from what I am facing. That’s why I am here at the MMDA offices, standing face-to-face with Chairman Tolentino – to ask for forgiveness and understanding for how I acted.

The last few weeks, I have felt the rage of the public over what I have done. Ever since the video came out both in the traditional media and in social media, I felt it best to remain sheltered at home. I needed to ask for advice from my family, from my friends, and from my own lawyers as well.

I learned as well that the Honorable Chairman Tolentino has filed a case with the LTO to revoke my driver’s license. On this point, I beseech Chairman Tolentino to withdraw his motion to have my license cancelled. And as this process is ongoing, I humbly ask for permission to continuing driving, as this will be critical to me in performing my work duties.

In conclusion, I would like to once again ask for forgiveness and understanding from Mr. Sonny, from the MMDA Chairman Francis Tolentino, from the entire MMDA, from my family, from my friends, and from the public. If there’s one thing I could ask for, it would be for a second chance, and to personally ask for the understanding from Mr. Sonny.

Thank you.

  1. Hmm. My tagalog might be rusty but I don’t see anywhere in that speech what he is apologizing for. I mean I don’t think it’s enough to say you’re sorry. You have to say what it is you are apologizing for, right? I don’t feel any sincerity there at all.

PS If I missed that point in his speech then I apologize for my comment :)

    • Fair point. He apologized for what he terms “the undesirable values he displayed,” but reiterated twice that he hopes his license doesn’t get revoked.. talk about a selfish agenda.

    • Well..your tagalog doesn’t have to be perfect. It seems he apologized so that his license won’t be revoked. So personally,I think that negates any sincerity he may have in the apology.:)
